Day Trip to Bergamo
With its history, architecture and picturesque setting - not to mention the important art gallery Pinacoteca dell'Accademia Carrara - Bergamo has become one of the most important centers for cultural tourism. As the birthplace of Romantic composer Gaetano Donizetti (1797), Bergamo is a must see for music lovers. Here the Maestro composed his operas: L'elisir d'amore, Lucrezia Borgia, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Pasquale. Donizetti is considered the founder of Italian Romanticism, a composer capable of combining the heroic with the tragic, the passion, the lively folk spirit, and the romantic natural landscape. As one might expect, Bergamo holds very dear the memory of its musical genius and boasts a Donizetti Museum in the city's Academy of Music.

Day trip to Cremona
Its main mediaeval square, one of the finest in Italy, tells the story of Cremona's past as a city proud of its independence from Milan. The Torrazzo, a tower soaring to 111 meters (364 ft.), can be seen from miles around in the Po Valley. The musical tradition of Cremona is enriched with the genius of Monteverdi, Ponchielli, Stradivari. The city as a whole has a natural instinct for music making and inherited skills in instrument making. Cremona is the proud home of the acclaimed Monteverdi Festival, held in the Teatro Ponchielli, and also boats an internationally acclaimed school of violin making. The tradition of violin making was born in the sixteenth century. The Stradivari Museum in the Palazzo Affaitati conserves many superb pieces by local craftsmen. A musical itinerary in Cremona could include a visit to the workshop of a master stringed-instrument maker.

Day trip to Mantua
Mantua rises above the Mincio River along a narrow strip of land between three lakes. The city was the Renaissance capital of the Gonzaga Dukes. This period saw the rise to eminence of such names as Pisanello, Vittorino da Feltre, Leon Battista Alberti, Andrea Mantegna and the great musician Claudio Monteverdi. Here he composed his masterpiece La favola di Orfeo e Arianna. Mantua's long and noble tradition of music did not end with the Gonzaga. The 18th and 19th-centuries saw the construction of two buildings, the Teatro Scientifico and the Teatro Sociale. The latter one, built in 1769, saw the young Mozart's first performance in Lombardy on his tour through Italy.

Please note: all tours can be customized to suit individual interests and schedules.
